What to Do: Ignition Cylinder Problems

Do you have a car problem that you think points to the ignition cylinder? Well, it happens. Here are some signs that will tell you that the ignition cylinder is the issue…keep reading for what to do if you are faced with these concerns.
  1. The car fails to immediately start.
When you turn the key, your vehicle should start up immediately. It shouldn’t take long. But if the vehicle does in fact take longer to start than normal, then it could be the ignition cylinder. Make sure the issue isn’t the battery or an alternator problem, then check the ignition cylinder if you rule out these potential issues.
  2. The car stalls.
A vehicle that stalls as a result of a broken ignition cylinder likely didn’t just start having major problems out of the blue. You might have ignored possible issues. If the engine does stall, it could be the ignition cylinder being problematic.

When You Need to Replace Your Locks

Your defense begins with your locks. Everyone in Georgia has some form of security but is it effective. We want you to remain safe at all times and we are sure that you can if you know when to replace your locks. Here are some other reasons and times when it would be a good idea to change your locks: Locks are old and worn Whenever you move into a new home, there is a good chance that the locks have been there since the house was built. You’ll need to look at the locks to make this determination. If they look old and dated, you should know that these types of locks are very problematic. Over time they lose their effectiveness. While we already encourage people who are moving into new homes or older homes to change all the locks, if they are old and worn, this is an even bigger reason to do so. Lost/Stolen keys You don’t know who has your keys and you can’t really assume that you just lost them. However, if you did lose them, you don’t know who picked them up or where you lost them. What if they fell out in your driveway and someone walking by noticed them. They could use them anytime. It is best to have all of the locks of your home replace to ensure that no one is able to gain access inside. Instead, of trying to find the keys, the first thing we would suggest that you do is contact a locksmith to change the locks. While you are looking for them, someone could be breaking in. New Tenants If you are a landlord, you already know that it is your responsibility to change the locks or have them rekeyed when a new tenant moves in. If you are not doing this, you could be held liable if something were to happen to a tenant. This would be considered negligence on your part and could result in your losing your job or being sued. If you don’t want this eventuality, make sure you change the locks when a new tenant moves in and avoid the possibility of anyone breaking into their place because you failed to do so. Move Outs If you have a room-mate that is moving out, consider changing the locks. This doesn’t mean that you don’t trust them, it simply means that you are being safe. You may not know it but they may have given a key to someone without your knowing about it. That person may still have the key and might just decide to use it when they feel like it. Don’t take unnecessary chances, change the lock and veer on the side of caution. Break-ins Common sense would undoubtedly tell you that this is the best time to have your locks change. However, not everyone uses common sense. They assume that since it already happened that it probably won’t happen again. This is not always the case. In most cases, someone will break in again because they know they can. If you change the locks, they will move on to someone else’s place. Don’t make yourself an easy target CHANGE YOUR LOCKS! Besides, the next time they show up, you might just happen to be home. We would hate for you to encounter a burglar in your home. Transponder key problems

When transponder keys break It happens; your made-of-metal transponder key can break in half! Too often we think of these keys as indestructible when in reality, they are not. You see folks ripping cardboard boxes open with their auto keys. Or, they might pop open a bottle or cut tape with it. While the key is pretty tough; it is not unbreakable and even if it does not break in half, it does become weaker with rough treatment like this. One problem with broken transponder keys is that in many cases, you not only need a new key programmed and duplicated, you also need extraction for the broken off part still inside the lock. Is anyone missing a transponder chip? It’s no joke; transponder keys sometimes lose their chips. These are embedded in the head of your key, but once in a while, all it takes is a simple fall onto a hard surface and the dislodged chip can be lost forever. The key itself will still work as far as locking and unlocking the door or trunk, but since it lacks the chip to transmit signals, the engine will just not start. How many times have we absentmindedly tossed our keys onto a desk or table or dropped them on the street or pavement? The embedded chip is small enough to be easily missed when the key is picked up and most people don’t know enough to look for it. What can you do? Be on the lookout for a missing chip if you drop your keys. It’s less expensive to have an automotive locksmith here in Alpharetta, Georgia re-insert it your transponder chip than to have an entirely new one programmed and duplicated.
